The twelve bronze plaques honoring the first inductees to the Michigan Walk of Fame have been installed in the sidewalks of Washington Square, downtown Lansing''s central retail district. Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero helped Michigan Walk of Fame organizers officially unveil the plaques on October 2, 2006. At that same time, Michigan Walk of Fame organizers announced the official call for nominations. During its first year, the Michigan Walk of Fame received 1,400 individual nominations from every county in Michigan and 15 other states.
